Oakland Street Paving - Nov. 9

On Tuesday, November 9, 2021, preliminary work for the proposed concrete improvements on Oakland Street between Gill and Grand River will begin. This work will consist of removing the existing temporary stone ramps to all driveways and placing wooden forms for the driveway approaches to be constructed. We kindly ask that no vehicles are parked on the street during working hours (7am-7pm) so that the contractor can perform this work. Vehicular driveway access to all homes will not be permitted once your approach is formed. We anticipate concrete to be poured shortly after your approach is formed (1-2 days after). You will regain all access to your driveway after the concrete approach has been poured and we have received passing test results for it. This is required to allow the concrete to cure and gain strength. Please also be advised that concrete sidewalk removal and replacement will take place concurrently with the driveway work and various areas of sidewalk be blocked off. GM & Sons, a sub-contractor to V.I.L. Construction, will be completing all concrete work which includes curb and gutter, driveway approaches, and ADA sidewalk improvements.
To accommodate this work and maintain access to the homes along Oakland Street we ask that the following parking arrangements please be followed.
  • On street parking on the streets adjacent to Oakland Street (such as Gill, Pickett, Wilmarth, and Cass) will be acceptable at all hours .
  • Overnight parking on Oakland Street in front of your home will be acceptable from the hours of 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM.
  • If assistance to accessing your home is needed please contact one of the contacts listed below.
Please keep children and pets away from the construction operation.  Construction
activities, and the associated equipment that goes with it, is attractive to small children and can be dangerous. Please keep children away from the equipment, removals, mass grading, underground utility installation, and wet concrete.
If you have any specific questions regarding this work, please call Mr. Michael McNutt, Project Inspector for OHM, at (313) 516-4735, Mr. Austin Downie, Engineer for OHM, at (734) 466-4437, Mr. Chuck Eudy, DPW Superintendent, Mr. Josh Leach, DPW Assistant Superintendent, at (248) 473-7250.
We apologize for this inconvenience, but hope you are excited about the final improvements.
