1. What is the deadline for a citizen to register to vote?
A citizen must register to vote at least thirty days before an election.
 
2. What is the deadline for arranging an absentee ballot?
The deadline is 2:00 p.m. of the Saturday preceding an election.
 
3. What are the deadlines for paying water bills?
The deadlines are January 15, April 15, July 15 and October 15. Postdated checks will be returned. (See question 15 for additional information.)
  
4. Where are the borders of the City of Farmington?
Farmington and Farmington Hills are separate and distinct cities. Farmington lies north of Livonia, east of Novi, west of Southfield and south of Ten Mile Road.
 
5. What number should a person call to find the telephone number of a business or an individual in the Farmington City area?
Directory assistance is 1-248-555-1212.
 
6. What is the procedure for obtaining a final bill from the city such as a water bill? How does the city handle final bills?
The citizen should call the Treasurer's Office and request a final bill.
  
7. Where is Farmington City Hall located? What hours is City Hall open?
City Hall is located at 23600 Liberty Street, along Grand River Road, one-half block west of Farmington Road. Business hours are 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
  
8. Where may a visitor or resident buy a copy of a city street map?
City street maps are sold at the Chamber of Commerce.
 
9. Does the city prepare, store and copy birth and death certificates?
No, the city does not. For those records, the individual must contact Oakland County at the following telephone number: 248-349-7850.
  
10. How may a person purchase a cemetery lot in the Farmington City Cemetery?
Lots are available. The City Clerk's Office has information on costs and cemetery rules and regulations. Interested individuals should call 248-474-5500 and ask for the Clerk's office.

13. Where is the Chamber of Commerce? Who are the officers? What is the telephone number?

14. What city parks are available? Are fees charged for use of the parks?
Make ball field reservations through the City of Farmington Hills. Make pavilion reservations through the City of Farmington. Citizens with other questions about park reservations or fees should call the appropriate city.
  
15. What are the procedures for buying a dog or cat license? What are the fees and due dates? How may a citizen mail in requests?
Licenses for cats or dogs may be obtained at City Hall Desks from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The fee is $7.00. If the animal has been neutered, the fee is reduced by $3.00. Licenses expire annually on July 1. Licenses are available in mid-December and may be purchased without penalty until April 1 of the following year. A valid rabies vaccination certificate must be provided at the time of licensing. Call the Clerk's Office to arrange for a license by mail.
 
16. Where is severe weather information available? (Do not call the city for severe weather information.)
Listen to one of the following radio and television stations: WJR, 760 AM; WWJ, 950 AM; the local cable weather channel.
 
17. What are the requirements for hiring in the Public Safety Department?
Each member of the Farmington Public Safety Department is cross-trained in three fields: police work, fire, and medical first response. Members of the Public Safety Department must have attained a minimum of an Associate Degree or its equivalent in credit hours if pursuing a more advanced degree. Reserve police officers and dispatchers must hold a high school diploma.
  
18. Where must an individual pay traffic tickets?
Tickets are paid at the 47th District Court, not at City Hall.
 
19. Where are corrected auto equipment violations inspected (mufflers, headlights, etc.)?
These inspections are conducted by the Public Safety Department at City Hall.
 
20. What hours is the Public Safety Department open?
It is open 24-hours every day of the year.
 
21. Where is the 24-hour depository for payments to the city?
The depository is located in the lobby of City Hall.
 
22. When is the Public Safety Department Record Bureau open?
It is open from 8:30a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
 
23. Where is the Public Safety Department?
It is located on Grand River Road, one-half block west of Farmington Road.
  
24. Where, when and why is fingerprinting conducted?
Individuals filling out visa requests, people in the process of adopting a child, anyone seeking a permit to carry a concealed weapon are among those who must be fingerprinted. Those residents who need to be fingerprinted may come to the Public Safety Desk at any time.
  
25. What is Farmington's curfew policy?
Farmington follows the State of Michigan curfew law. The hours are the same seven days per week. For those under age 11, the curfew hours run from 10:00 p.m. through 6:00 a.m.; for those under age 16, the hours run from 12 midnight through 6:00 a.m.
   
26. What are the business hours of the Detective Bureau of the Public Safety Department?
The hours are 8:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Since detectives often need to leave their offices, a citizen may leave a message. One of the detectives will get back to him or her. Their phone number is 248-474-4700.
 
27. What is the telephone number to call when traffic signals are out?
Individuals should report defective traffic signals to the Farmington Public Safety Department at 248-474-4700

28. What is the number to call concerning after-hours water or power outages, waterline breaks, sewer backups?
Residents should call the Public Safety Department at this number: 248-474-4700.
  
29. What is the city's policy on the trimming of trees owned by the city and growing in the right-of-way next to city streets?
Citizens should call the Department of Public Services for permission to trim any of these trees.
 
30. What are the procedures for obtaining a block grant? 
Oakland County oversees a home improvement program.
Eligibility depends upon a citizen's home improvement needs, financial condition, and the availability of funds at the time of application. Also, to qualify for a home improvement loan, the individual must own and reside in a single family home. Those home improvements which take priority include repairs for purposes of health and safety, structural preservation and energy conservation.
