2010 Officer of the Year - Sergeant Todd Anderson
Sergeant Todd Anderson, of the Farmington Public Safety Department, has been
named the public safety "Officer of the Year." The Awards and Citation Board
recognized the sergeant for several outstanding achievements during 2010.
Starting January of 2010, Sergeant Todd Anderson led the Narcotic Suppression Units two (2) month long investigation of a residence on Floral Street that resulted in the execution of a search warrant and confiscation money and drugs. This investigation involved extensive intelligence gathering, surveillance, background investigations on known residents and cooperation of area narcotic teams. In the end, three (3) residents were formally charged by the Oakland County Prosecutors Office with possession of marihuana with intent to deliver.
In March, Sergeant Anderson was one of three (3) officers that responded to an underage drinking party on Mayfield Street. Once in the home officers found a seventeen year old female in the basement suffering from possible alcohol poisoning amongst some thirty (30) to forty (40) teenagers. Sergeant Anderson provided medical care until paramedics arrived and transported the female to the hospital. Sergeant Anderson then assisted in the investigation that resulted in the homeowner being arrested for contributing to the delinquency of minors and twenty-one (21) teenagers being issued violations for minors consuming alcohol.
In May, Sergeant Anderson was supervising the afternoon shift when a call was received of a possible suicidal subject. Officers arrived at the home and entered, but were unable to locate the subject in the home. Using a garage door opener found in the home, officers checked the garage and found the subject inside with the vehicle running. The subject was quickly removed from the garage, provided medical care and transported to an area hospital for further care.
In September, Sergeant Anderson and PSO Mark Keeley responded to a family trouble. Upon arrival, officers learned that a male was held up in a bedroom with a gun. Both officers immediately entered the residence and located the male with a shotgun pointed under his chin. Working together, the officers took up positions of cover and attempted to talk the male into putting the gun down while Sergeant Anderson readied a department Taser. When all efforts had failed and it appeared the male was going to take his own life, Sergeant Anderson deployed the Taser immobilizing the male. The male was taken into protective custody and transported to an area hospital for treatment.
In December, Sergeant Anderson responded to a storage unit fire at Drakeshire Apartments. While on scene, Sergeant Anderson interviewed a resident who provided critical information as to who may have been responsible for starting the fire. An interview was then conducted with the juvenile and his father where a confession was obtained as to how the fire was started. As a result, the juvenile was formally charged with arson by the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office.
The Awards and Citations Board recognizes the outstanding contributions and dedication to law enforcement by Sergeant Todd Anderson in 2010 and names him as the Farmington Public Safety Department’s "Officer of the Year."
