Records and Dispatch
Records Division
The Records Division is the central repository for all official departmental documents. Report information is downloaded into CLEMIS (Courts and Law Enforcement Management Information System), an Oakland County consortium of law enforcement agencies.
Records personnel process all requests for police reports, including Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests. They are also responsible for the processing of court dockets and subpoenas, false alarm billing, bicycle licenses, parking permits, mug shot database, non-criminal fingerprints, police clearance letters, warrants processing, and requests for station tours.
In 2008, the Records Division processed:
- 4 sex offenders registrations
- 63 applications to purchase handguns processed
- 53 handgun registered
- 2 handgun requests denied
- 126 concealed weapon permit application packets distributed
- 10 parking permits issued
Dispatch Center
The Dispatch Center serves as a Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) for police and fire services. The public safety department remained the test site during 2008 for the Oakland County 800 frequency radio system. The dispatch center experienced a jump in the number of cellular 911 calls as the system switched to direct dial from cell phone callers. Previously these calls were initially received by Michigan State Police and then transferred to the appropriate jurisdiction.
In 2009, the dispatchers handled:
- Over 24,000 incoming phone calls, including 911.
- Dispatched 6,682 calls for service (police, fire & medical)
They also handled numerous citizens at the front desk asking for directions, court inquiries, reports of stray or lost animals, and other general information. Dispatchers are also responsible for the monitoring numerous cameras, ensuring the safety of housed prisoners and station security. Farmington's dispatch center is staffed 24 hours per day, seven days per week.
The dispatch clerk maintains the high standard of errorless entry required by the State of Michigan's MICR crime reporting system.
