The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will host an open house-style public meeting to discuss a 2019 project on M-5 between 8 Mile Road and 13 Mile Road. The work will include milling and replacing asphalt, bridge rehabilitation on Drake Road and Grand River Avenue over M-5, and sign replacements.

MDOT is investing $8.9 million to perform road, bridge and sign work on M-5 between 8 Mile Road and 13 Mile Road in the cities of Farmington, Farmington Hills, and Novi in Oakland County. The 2019 project is expected to begin in the spring and be completed by the fall.
The project includes:
- milling and replacing asphalt on M-5 between Grand River Avenue and I-696, including the ramps, along with concrete pavement repairs and joint repairs,
- replacing and upgrading signs on M-5 between 8 Mile and 13 Mile roads,
- concrete overlay and replacing barrier wall at the M-5/Grand River Avenue intersection, and
- replacing beams and the bridge deck on the Drake Road bridge over eastbound M-5.

This work is expected to feature single- and double-lane closures with limited full closures on the weekends. Work on Grand River Avenue and Drake Road will require full closures with traffic detoured. MDOT is working with the city on accommodations for overnight and weekend work.
