FPS and Farmington work together on the sale of the former Maxfield Training Center

Farmington Public Schools’ (FPS) Maxfield Training Center (MTC) is currently a vacant 58,675 plus, square foot former school building and training center located on three acres in the heart of downtown Farmington. The site has been vacant for about six years and is the focus of redevelopment efforts by the city of Farmington. Farmington Public Schools has been working with the city of Farmington on the sale and redevelopment of the site.

According to the City of Farmington’s Economic and Community Development Director Kevin Christiansen, the City identified the MTC site as one of its four focus areas for redevelopment in the 2013 City of Farmington Vision Plan. It was also identified as a major redevelopment piece in the City’s 2015 Downtown Area Plan. The MTC and surrounding properties including Shiawassee Park and the adjacent Farmington Public Schools’ administration property are all part of the Downtown Area Plan for potential redevelopment.

“We are pleased that the MTC property is back on the market and we look forward to continuing to partner with the City on the redevelopment with a successful sale of this property,” said Jon Riebe, Director of Facilities Management, Operations and Transportation for Farmington Public Schools.

“The city of Farmington is very excited to be working with FPS on the opportunity to redevelop the MTC site and to implement the City’s Downtown Area Plan,” said Christiansen. “Future benefits include potential new residential dwellings in downtown Farmington, as well as new commercial and retail development. Redeveloping the MTC site will also put the property on the tax role for the city of Farmington, realizing economic benefit and tax-base enhancement for both the city of Farmington and Farmington Public Schools.”

The Request for Proposals (RFP) can be found on the District’s web site at www.farmington.k12.mi.us. Proposals must be received by Farmington Public Schools by 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22. Information regarding the City of Farmington can be found on their web site at www.farmgov.com.
