Farmington City Council approves sale of former 47th District Courthouse Property
Release date: 5/18/2016
At Monday night’s City Council Meeting, the Council approved a $420,000 offer from SDC Ventures, LLC to purchase the former 47th District Court courthouse property on Ten Mile Road east of Farmington. The concept development plan is for 14 single-family homes. The purchase price assumes that SDC will be responsible for the demolition of the existing structures on the property.
The next step in the process is for the Farmington Planning Commission to review the Plan Unit Development (PUD) preliminary concept plans. Once approved, the plans will be moved to a public hearing and then will need approval by City Council.
According to Economic and Community Development Director Kevin Christiansen, the Planning Commission oversees the overall plan for redevelopment of the Courthouse Property to include layout of the streets, utility locations and single family lots, as well as the elevations – architectural plans – of the proposed houses.
At the council meeting, Developer Roger Scherr with SDC Ventures, assured council that they would not be disappointed.
The Old 47th District Courthouse Property has been vacant for about 13 years. The City of Farmington owns the property and has been marketing/selling it for the past 4 years. The Thomas A. Duke Company has been brokering the property on behalf of the City of Farmington.
