Assessing Services

The City has contracted with Oakland County to provide assessing services. Under terms of the contract, Oakland County Equalization performs the following functions:

  • Assesses annually real and personal property
  • Prepares annual assessment role
  • Attends Boards of Review
  • Consults on Michigan Tax Tribunal appeals

The City continues to maintain staff at City Hall to provide personalized assistance to residents and businesses, including:

  • Answering taxpayer questions
  • Accessing and providing information related to the assessing role
  • Providing and accepting Property Transfer Affidavits, Principal Residence Exemptions and Request to Rescinds,
  • Providing copies of records, sketches, and photos
  • Maintaining Sales Records
  • Coordinating Board of Review appointments

All questions related to assessing should be addressed to the City’s Administrative Specialists. The Administrative Specialists will answer questions or coordinate with the County as appropriate.

CITY OF FARMINGTON

BOARD OF REVIEW

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN TO ALL PERSONS THAT:  An Assessment Roll of all property in the City of Farmington subject to taxation has been prepared by the City Assessor, and said roll will be subject to inspection at the Office of the City Assessor in Farmington City Hall, 23600 Liberty Street, Farmington, Michigan.
 
The Board of Review will be in session as follows:
 
     Tuesday, March 14, 2017        10:00 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.
     Thursday, March 16, 2017       1:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.  
  
Upon request of any person who is assessed on the Roll, or his/her agent, and upon sufficient cause being shown, the Board of Review can adjust the assessment on such property in such a manner as will in their judgment provide an equitable assessment.  Such Assessment Roll review by said Board of Review shall be the Assessment Roll of the City of Farmington for the year 2017.
 
Appointments for a hearing before the Board of Review can be made by calling the Oakland County Assessor’s Office (888-350-0900 ext. 59611) between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.  Written requests to the Board of Review can also be made beginning March 1st by submitting the requests to the Office of the City Assessor in Farmington City Hall, 23600 Liberty Street, Farmington MI, 48335.  Written requests must be received by 9:00 a.m. on March 16, 2017. It is advisable that anyone planning an appeal of the 2017 Assessment contact the Oakland County Assessor prior to the Board of Review meetings to discuss the matter.
